Subeco was established in 2021. We are a Belgium based company, specializing in barrier technology for paper , board and molded fiber.
We apply the latest technologies in chemical science to develop high-performance ecological solutions for the paper, cardboard , molded fiber and packaging industry.
Subeco is committed to continuing its search for solutions for optimal paper , board coating and molded fiber production that are both environmentally friendly and economically attractive. We are focused on the success we can bring to our customers’ operations through innovation.
Water-based and bio-wax barrier coatings for sustainable packaging innovation
In close collaboration with paper and board producers, food packaging convertors, retailers and major brand owners, Subeco develops water-based and bio-wax barrier solutions for the manufacturing of environmentally-friendly fibre-based packaging systems that require specific barrier performances.
Increasing demand for easily recyclable and biodegradable packaging is driving the innovation team of Subeco to provide a sustainable alternative to replace paraffin coatings and harmful fluorinated compounds to increase the sustainability of food packaging.
To substitute hard-to-recycle multi-material packaging using polyethylene, Subeco develops and provides easily applicable and eco-friendly products for mono-layer paper , board packaging and molded fiber systems.
Barrier solutions
Our expertise in tuning barrier coatings will be an important asset in obtaining optimum performance for your specialty paper ,board and molded fiber. We cover barrier properties like oleophobicity, hydrophobicity and resistance to water vapor.
Barrier solutions available on the market are based on wax emulsions, polyethylene foils or additives containing harmful halogens (bromine, fluorine, etc.). Though these components give excellent results as a barrier, some require a complex production process. Even more importantly, these kinds of barrier components may have a harmful impact on health and environment, or they result in packaging that is difficult and expensive to recycle.
Therefore, all our barrier coating solutions are water-based and can contain substances from renewable sources having no negative impact on recyclability. They provide a price-competitive and environmental friendly alternative. Wherever necessary, our solutions are tested and certified so as to be compliant with authority regulations for both direct and indirect food contact.
